They use their American ingenuity to outsmart the ghost and eventually drive him away. In "The Ghost-Extinguisher," Gelett Burgess tells the story of a man who invents a machine that can extinguish ghosts. The man, Professor Spaulding, is initially skeptical of ghosts, but he soon comes to believe in them after he sees the machine in action. The machine is a success, and Spaulding soon becomes a wealthy man by selling it to people who are haunted by ghosts. In "The Transferred Ghost," Frank R. Stockton tells the story of a man who accidentally transfers his ghost to another man. The man, Mr. Otis, is a wealthy businessman who is haunted by the ghost of his deceased wife. Mr. Otis is desperate to get rid of the ghost, and he eventually succeeds by transferring it to another man. The other man, Mr. Jenkins, is a poor farmer who is not afraid of the ghost. The ghost soon realizes that Mr. Jenkins is not afraid of him, and he eventually leaves him alone.Book Details
