Ο Θουκυδίδης εξιστορεί τον Πελοποννησιακό Πόλεμο, συγκρούσεις μεταξύ της Αθηναϊκής και της Σπαρτιατικής συμμαχίας που διήρκεσε 27 χρόνια, από το 431 ως το 404 π.Χ. Το έργο ξεκινά με την απαγωγή των πρέσβεων της Αθήνας από τη Σπάρτη και συνεχίζει με την περιγραφή των πολεμικών επιχειρήσεων των δύο αντιπάλων. Στο έβδομο βιβλίο ο Θουκυδίδης αφηγείται την εκστρατεία των Αθηναίων στη Σικελία και την καταστροφική τους ήττα στις Συρακούσες. Η ιστορία ολοκληρώνεται με την ειρήνη του Νικία το 421 π.Χ. Ο Θουκυδίδης υιοθετεί μια επιστημονική μέθοδο στην καταγραφή των γεγονότων, βασισμένη σε έρευνες, συνεντεύξεις και προσωπικές εμπειρίες. Το έργο του θεωρείται ένα από τα σημαντικότερα κείμενα της αρχαιότητας και έχει επηρεάσει σημαντικά την ιστοριογραφία και την πολιτική σκέψη ανά τους αιώνες.Book Details
