'Jungfrau von Orleans' Summary
**Die Jungfrau von Orleans** tells the story of Joan of Arc, a young French peasant girl who is called by God to lead the French army to victory against the English during the Hundred Years' War. Joan is a devout Catholic and she believes that she is fighting for God. She is also a strong believer in the French monarchy and she is determined to help the Dauphin, Charles VII, become king of France. Joan's leadership inspires the French army and they are able to defeat the English at the Battle of Orleans. However, Joan is eventually captured by the English and she is burned at the stake. **Die Jungfrau von Orleans** is a tragedy and it explores the themes of religious faith, patriotism, and sacrifice.Book Details
