Η Βασιλοπούλα, εγκλωβισμένη σε ένα απομονωμένο νησί, ζει μια ζωή χωρίς πόνο αλλά και χωρίς χαρά. Η ψυχή της βασιλοπούλας, όντας άγνωστη με την έννοια του συναισθήματος, πνίγεται σε ένα ωκεανό μοναξιάς. Η ιστορία περιγράφει την αγωνία της για απελευθέρωση, την επιθυμία της να ανακαλύψει τον κόσμο και να δώσει νόημα στην ύπαρξή της.
