Letters of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, Part 3
'Letters of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, Part 3' Summary
The letters in this volume cover the period from June to September 1846, a time of great change and upheaval in the lives of both Browning and Barrett Browning. Browning had just published his breakthrough poem, "Men and Women," and was beginning to establish himself as a major literary figure. Barrett Browning, on the other hand, was still an invalid, confined to her home by a mysterious illness. Despite their physical separation, the two poets fell deeply in love, and their letters are filled with expressions of passion and longing. In addition to their personal correspondence, the letters also discuss their work and their views on poetry and literature. Browning was a great admirer of Barrett Browning's work, and he often encouraged her to write more. Barrett Browning, in turn, was inspired by Browning's poetry, and she often incorporated his ideas into her own work. The letters in this volume offer a fascinating glimpse into the creative process of two of the most important poets of the Victorian era.Book Details
