Frederick William von Steuben was a Prussian officer who served as a Major General in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He is considered one of the fathers of the United States Army and played a leading role in improving the Continental Army and turning it into a professional fighting force. Steuben's reforms included standardizing drill and tactics, improving discipline, and establishing a system of logistics. He also trained officers and helped to create a sense of esprit de corps among the troops.
