In London, Nesta Ford and Lord Mountry plot to take her son Ogden on a yachting trip, despite Ogden's father having won custody. Cynthia Drassilis arrives with Ogden, whom she has "borrowed" from his father's country house. However, Mr. Ford's secretary, Mr. Minnick, arrives to recover the stolen child. Cynthia tries to bribe his colleague, Mrs. Sheridan, but to no avail. Nesta reveals to Cynthia Ogden's past as the 'Little Nugget,' and the repeated attempts to kidnap him made by US gangsters. Cynthia persuades Nesta to let her handle the situation, with the help of her wealthy fiancé, Peter Burns, who can pose as a trainee schoolmaster at Ogden's new school.
