Midnight
'Midnight' Summary
A lone woman enters an empty taxicab on a sleeting cold December midnight. She is never seen again. In her place is the dead body of a prominent society man. The crime seems to have lost itself in the cold of the night, with no trails to follow. The circumstances are baffling, and the police are stumped. But one man is determined to find the truth. He is a private detective named John Smith, and he is known for his tenacity and his ability to see what others miss. Smith begins his investigation by talking to the people who were last seen with the woman. He learns that she was a struggling actress who had recently been seen arguing with the dead man. Smith also learns that the woman had been carrying a suitcase that belonged to the dead man. As Smith digs deeper, he uncovers a web of lies and deceit. He learns that the dead man was involved in a number of illegal activities, and that he had many enemies. Smith also learns that the woman was not who she seemed to be. She was actually a spy who had been sent to gather information on the dead man. As Smith gets closer to the truth, he becomes the target of those who want to keep the crime a secret. He is threatened, and even attacked. But Smith is not deterred. He is determined to find the truth, no matter what the cost.Book Details
