'Ὁμήρου Ὀδύσσεια (Ραψῳδία 02) - The Odyssey (Book 02)' Summary
In this book, the Ithacans gather at the behest of Antinous, a suitor of Penelope, Odysseus' wife, who seeks to pressure her into choosing a new husband. However, the goddess Athena, disguised as Mentes, a seasoned sailor, inspires Telemachus, Odysseus' son, to reject their demands and embark on his own quest. Telemachus, driven by a longing for news of his father and seeking to reclaim his rightful inheritance, sets sail with Athena's blessing. As he departs, Odysseus, stranded on the island of Ogygia under the spell of the nymph Calypso, is visited by Hermes, sent by Zeus to command his release. The book concludes with Odysseus' preparations for a perilous return to Ithaca, setting the stage for his arduous journey home and the re-encounter with his family and kingdom.Book Details
