In this book, the Ithacans gather at the behest of Antinous, a suitor of Penelope, Odysseus' wife, who seeks to pressure her into choosing a new husband. However, the goddess Athena, disguised as Mentes, a seasoned sailor, inspires Telemachus, Odysseus' son, to reject their demands and embark on his own quest. Telemachus, driven by a longing for news of his father and seeking to reclaim his rightful inheritance, sets sail with Athena's blessing.
