In this book, Odysseus is held captive by the beautiful nymph Calypso on her island. She offers him immortality and eternal love, but Odysseus longs to return home to Ithaca. The gods, spurred by Athena, intervene to force Calypso to release Odysseus. Athena instructs the god Hermes to deliver Calypso's message to Odysseus, urging him to build a raft and set sail. With the aid of the goddess, Odysseus builds a sturdy raft and sets out to sea. The book concludes with Odysseus's voyage, navigating through treacherous waters, facing storms, and relying on his ingenuity and resilience.
