Telemachus arrives at the hut of Eumaeus, the swineherd, who has been taking care of Odysseus's estate in his absence. Telemachus and Eumaeus talk about Odysseus, and Telemachus tells Eumaeus that he has given up hope of ever seeing his father again. Meanwhile, Odysseus, who has been disguised as a beggar, arrives at the palace of his son. Odysseus meets Telemachus, but Telemachus does not recognize his father.
