O Mulato é um romance do autor brasileiro Aluísio Azevedo que retrata a sociedade maranhense do século XIX. A história gira em torno de Raimundo, um jovem médico de pele clara, filho de uma escrava e um branco. Apesar de sua educação e sucesso profissional, Raimundo enfrenta o preconceito e a discriminação por causa de sua herança africana. O romance explora temas como o racismo, a identidade, a busca por reconhecimento social e a hipocrisia da elite brasileira da época. Azevedo usa uma linguagem realista e crua para retratar a sociedade maranhense e as desigualdades que a permeavam.
