Pearl (Weston translation)

by The Gawain Poet

Pearl is a Middle English poem by the Gawain Poet, written in the late 14th century. The poem tells the story of a man who dreams of a pearl that he has lost. The pearl is a symbol of his daughter, who died as a young child. The man's grief over the loss of his daughter is so great that he wants to die and join her in heaven. However, the man's faith in God helps him to come to terms with his daughter's death. He realizes that she is now in a better place and that he will see her again one day.
