Rat Race

Rat Race

by Jay Franklin

In 'Rat Race,' Lieutenant Commander Frank Jacklin, a naval officer, finds himself inexplicably inhabiting the body of Winnie Tompkins, a dissolute stockbroker. After a fateful atomic explosion aboard his ship, he awakens in a strange new reality. Stripped of his identity and memories, he struggles to navigate Tompkins' extravagant yet chaotic life, entangled with his wife, mistress, and secretary. As Jacklin becomes entangled in this web of relationships, his foreknowledge of the Alaska sinking and other classified matters plunges him into a world of political intrigue and espionage in Washington D.C. The novel's suspense revolves around the mystery of Tompkins' whereabouts and the secrets that Jacklin is forced to uncover in his unfamiliar, and perhaps permanent, identity.
