'Satiren' Summary
Horaz' Satiren, ursprünglich als „Sermones“ (Gespräche) bezeichnet, sind eine Sammlung von zehn und acht Gedichten in Hexametern, die sich mit verschiedenen Aspekten des römischen Lebens auseinandersetzen. Horaz führt uns in seine Gespräche mit dem Leser, mit dem Mäzen Maecenas und mit sich selbst, wobei er auch fiktive Charaktere einbezieht. Mit einem humorvollen Ton beleuchtet Horaz gesellschaftliche Missstände, wie zum Beispiel Habgier, Ehebruch, Aberglaube und Völlerei. Dabei kritisiert er jedoch nicht nur die Schwächen seiner Zeitgenossen, sondern reflektiert auch über seine eigenen Fehler und die Suche nach einem ethischen Leben.
