Saxon and Norman
'Saxon and Norman' Summary
In the year 1066, England teeters on the brink of change. King Edward the Confessor, frail and childless, faces his imminent demise. The question of succession sparks a heated rivalry. Harold Godwinson, a powerful Saxon earl, enjoys popular support and claims the throne based on the king's promise. However, William, Duke of Normandy, asserts his claim, citing a supposed promise from Edward. He gathers an army, preparing to invade England and enforce his claim. The story intertwines the lives of these key figures: Harold, a skilled warrior and cunning politician; William, ambitious and determined to fulfill his destiny; and Edward, a devout king torn between his loyalties. The novel chronicles the political maneuvering, military preparations, and personal struggles that culminate in the momentous Battle of Hastings. The clash between the Saxon and Norman armies shapes the future of England, ushering in a new era of Norman rule, a turning point that irrevocably alters English history.Book Details
