While on holiday in East Anglia, private detective Grant Colwyn encounters a young man acting strangely at a hotel. The man, after failing to pay his bill, disappears and later surfaces at a village inn in the Norfolk marshes. Tragedy strikes when another guest at the inn is found dead, and suspicion immediately falls on the missing man.
