To Have And To Hold
'To Have And To Hold' Summary
Pocahontas, a Native American woman, is captured by the English settlers of Jamestown. She is later taken as a captive by Captain John Smith, a charismatic soldier who helps establish Jamestown. Despite the cultural and societal differences, a powerful bond develops between Pocahontas and Smith. As Jamestown struggles to survive and establish itself, Pocahontas becomes a key figure in mediating peace between the settlers and her people. Their relationship faces numerous challenges, including the arrival of a wealthy and powerful Englishman, Lord de la Warr, who is determined to have Pocahontas as his own. Pocahontas is torn between her duty to her people, her love for Smith, and the promise of a life of luxury and security with Lord de la Warr. The novel follows Pocahontas's journey as she navigates these complex choices, ultimately finding her place in the evolving world of colonial America. The story weaves together the history of Jamestown, the romance between Pocahontas and Smith, and the adventures they encounter on the unforgiving frontier.Book Details
