Dave ran a lumber mill in western Canada. Jim Truscott went on a gold seeking mission in Yukon and Dave was asked to watch over Betty, Jim's fiancee, in the meantime. Jim came back changed and Betty was confused on whether she should still marry him, Dave was suspicious of Jim as well.
