'Visit From Young Gloom' Summary
The story begins with a couple, Ed and Louise, who are visited by a young man named Young Gloom. Young Gloom is a mysterious figure who seems to embody the spirit of gloom and despair. He tells the couple that he has come to stay with them for a while, and they reluctantly agree. Young Gloom's presence has a profound effect on the couple. Ed and Louise begin to argue and fight more frequently. They also start to lose interest in their jobs and hobbies. Young Gloom seems to be draining the life out of them. One day, Ed and Louise decide that they can't take it anymore. They tell Young Gloom that he has to leave. Young Gloom agrees to go, but he warns them that he will be back. The story ends with Ed and Louise sitting in their living room, looking at each other in silence.
