Visitador

Visitador

by José Milla y Vidaurre

Visitador is a satirical novel by Guatemalan author José Milla y Vidaurre. It was first published in 1867 and is considered one of the most important works of Latin American literature. The novel tells the story of Felipe Gómez, a government official who is sent to a remote town to investigate corruption. Felipe quickly discovers that the town is rife with corruption and hypocrisy, and that the people are resigned to their fate. Despite his best efforts, Felipe is unable to make any progress in his investigation. Eventually, he becomes disillusioned and resigns from his post. Visitador is a sharp critique of the political and social conditions in Guatemala in the 19th century, and it remains relevant today. Milla y Vidaurre's wit and humor make the novel a pleasure to read, even as it exposes the dark underbelly of society.
