'When the Birds Fly South' Summary
Dan Prescott, an American adventurer, discovers the hidden valley of Sobul in Afghanistan, home to the Ibandru, a race of winged people. He falls in love with Yasma, an Ibandru woman, and they marry. However, the Ibandru migrate south with the birds each fall, and Yasma must accompany them, leaving Prescott behind. The story follows their unique courtship, the challenges of cultural differences, and the bittersweet farewell as Yasma joins her people on their seasonal journey.
