Witch of Edmonton

Witch of Edmonton

by John Ford

The Witch of Edmonton is a powerful and moving play that explores the themes of witchcraft, revenge, and the nature of good and evil. Set in 17th-century England, the play tells the story of Mother Elizabeth Sawyer, a poor and lonely old woman who is unjustly accused of witchcraft. Desperate for revenge, she turns to the devil for help, and he sends her a familiar, a talking dog named Tom. With Tom's help, Mother Sawyer begins to wreak havoc on her tormentors, but she soon realizes that the price of revenge is too high. The Witch of Edmonton is a complex and nuanced play that offers no easy answers. It is a story about the power of belief, the dangers of prejudice, and the human capacity for both good and evil.
