Woe From Wit [Горе от ума]

Woe from Wit [Горе от ума]

by Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov

Woe from Wit is a comedy in verse by Alexander Griboyedov, satirizing the society of post-Napoleonic Moscow. Written in 1823, the play was not passed by the censorship for the stage and only portions of it were allowed to appear in an almanac for 1825. However, it was widely read and circulated in manuscript form, making it as good as published. It was eventually published in full in 1861, after the author's death.
