'19 de Marzo y el 2 de Mayo' Summary
El 19 de Marzo y el 2 de Mayo continues the story of Gabriel de Araceli, introduced in previous novels of Galdós' Episodios Nacionales. Gabriel finds himself in Aranjuez, where his beloved Inés is held captive by her relatives. The novel depicts the dramatic events leading up to the Motín de Aranjuez, a popular uprising against the unpopular King Charles IV and his Prime Minister, Godoy. Gabriel is caught in the crossfire, attempting to free Inés and navigate the shifting political landscape. His resourceful intelligence, honed during his time in the court of Charles IV, is tested as he faces betrayal, intrigue, and the looming threat of Napoleon's invasion. The story unfolds a compelling narrative of love, politics, and the struggles of a nation in crisis.Book Details
