A Fighting Man of Mars" is a science fiction novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and published in 1930. The story is part of the "Barsoom" series, which follows the adventures of John Carter, a former Confederate soldier who finds himself transported to the planet Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom.
The novel introduces readers to Tan Hadron of Hastor, a soldier from the city of Helium on Barsoom. Tan Hadron is in love with the beautiful Sanoma Tora, but she is betrothed to the cruel and power-hungry jed (prince) of the city. Determined to win her love, Tan Hadron joins the Zodangan army to prove his worth.
During a battle with the Green Martians, Tan Hadron rescues a mysterious red woman named Tavia. He discovers that she is a runaway slave from the city of Jahar, and her owner is none other than the brutal jeddak (king) of that city. Tan Hadron, with Tavia's help, escapes the battle and the two embark on a journey through the desolate Martian landscape, seeking refuge in the ancient city of Zodanga.
In Zodanga, Tan Hadron faces challenges and adventures that test his bravery and loyalty. He becomes entangled in political intrigue and finds himself caught between the warring factions of Zodanga and Helium. As he fights for his own survival and the freedom of the woman he loves, Tan Hadron uncovers secrets about his own past and the history of Barsoom.
