Amazons: A Farcical Romance
'Amazons: A Farcical Romance' Summary
The play opens with the three sisters, Noeline, Thomasin, and Wilhelmina, dressed in their boy's clothes and playing cricket in the garden. They are interrupted by the arrival of three gentlemen, Barrington Litterly, Galfred Tweenwayes, and the Reverend Roger Minchin. The gentlemen are immediately smitten with the sisters, but are confused by their masculine behavior. The sisters, for their part, are attracted to the gentlemen, but are unsure of how to act around them. They eventually decide to dress as ladies and invite the gentlemen to dinner. The dinner is a disaster, as the sisters are unable to keep up their ladylike personas. The gentlemen are further confused, and the sisters are forced to reveal their true identities. The Marchioness is furious when she finds out that her daughters have been dressing as boys, but she eventually comes to accept their decision. The play ends with the sisters marrying the gentlemen, and the Marchioness vowing to never raise another daughter as a boy.Book Details
