Le Livre de Judith se déroule dans la Judée pendant le règne d'Assuérus, un roi perse. Holoferne, un général assyrien, a pour mission de conquérir la Palestine et d'assujettir le peuple juif. Il assiège la ville de Béthulie, où les Juifs sont coincés sans nourriture ni eau. Le peuple est au bord de la désespérance, prêt à se rendre. Cependant, Judith, une veuve courageuse et pieuse, décide de prendre les choses en main. Elle s'infiltre dans le camp assyrien, séduit Holoferne et le tue pendant son sommeil. Grâce à la tête d'Holoferne, Judith retourne à Béthulie et inspire ses compatriotes à se battre avec vigueur contre les Assyriens, ce qui conduit à leur victoire. L'histoire de Judith est considérée comme un symbole de la puissance de la foi et de la confiance en Dieu. Le livre met en lumière le courage et la détermination d'une femme face à l'adversité, ainsi que la puissance de la prière et de la croyance dans le pouvoir divin.Book Details
