'Bible (YLT) 17: Esther' Summary
The Book of Esther begins with King Ahasuerus (traditionally identified with Xerxes I) holding a grand feast in his palace. He divorces his queen, Vashti, for refusing to obey his command. He later chooses Esther, a beautiful Jewish woman, as his new queen. Esther, who has kept her Jewish identity secret, becomes aware of a plot by Haman, the king's advisor, to exterminate all Jews in the empire. With the help of her cousin Mordecai, Esther devises a plan to reveal Haman's treachery. She courageously confronts the king, risking her life to expose the conspiracy. Ahasuerus, having been deceived by Haman, grants Esther's plea and ultimately defeats Haman's wicked plan. The story culminates in a triumphant celebration of the Jews' deliverance, leading to the establishment of the annual festival of Purim. The book of Esther provides a powerful narrative of resilience, faith, and the enduring power of hope in the face of adversity.Book Details
