'Black Motor Car' Summary
Jack Portheous, deeply smitten with the alluring Mrs. de la Mothe, commits a grave act of embezzlement, his heart set on eloping with her to South America. However, a tragic twist of fate strikes on the eve of their departure. Jack finds his wife dead, a blow that consumes him with guilt and remorse. Abandoning his plans, he is betrayed by Mrs. de la Mothe, who reveals his crime to his employer, leading to his imprisonment. Years later, after serving his sentence, Jack returns to England, his sole focus now on seeking retribution.
