'Book of Judith' Summary
Set during a time of Assyrian conquest, the Book of Judith details the siege of Bethulia, a Jewish city threatened by Holofernes, a powerful Assyrian general. Faced with imminent destruction, Judith, a devout and beautiful widow, devises a plan to save her people. She seduces Holofernes, gaining access to his tent and beheading him in his sleep. Her victory is attributed to her unwavering faith in God and her strategic use of her feminine wiles to achieve her goals.Book Details
