Un grupo de jóvenes estudiantes de un internado británico se embarcan en un viaje en barco a las Islas Malvinas. En medio de una tormenta feroz, el barco naufraga y solo un pequeño bote salvavidas logra escapar con cinco niños a bordo: el valiente Jack, el meticuloso Dick, el inventor Ned, el sensible Bob y el travieso Bat. A la deriva en el mar durante días, son rescatados por un barco que los deja en una isla desierta. Con pocos recursos y sin contacto con el mundo exterior, los niños deben aprender a sobrevivir en un ambiente salvaje y hostil. Construyen refugios, buscan alimento, y enfrentan la amenaza de los animales salvajes. Con el paso del tiempo, se convierten en expertos en el arte de la supervivencia, aprendiendo a aprovechar los recursos de la isla para su beneficio.
