'East Lynne' Summary
East Lynne is a classic Victorian novel that tells the story of Lady Isabel Carlyle, a beautiful and refined young woman who leaves her hardworking but neglectful lawyer-husband and her infant children to elope with an aristocratic suitor. However, her dreams of happiness are soon shattered when her lover deserts her and she bears their illegitimate child. In desperation, Lady Isabel disguises herself and takes the position of governess in the household of her husband and his new wife. As she tries to rebuild her life, she must confront the consequences of her past actions and the pain she has caused to those she loves.Book Details
