Emma: A Fragment of a Story
'Emma: A Fragment of a Story' Summary
The novel opens with Miss Mabel Wilcox, the headmistress of a recently established girl's boarding school, welcoming her first student, Matilda Fitzgibbon, brought to the school by her father, Mr. Conway Fitzgibbon. Initially presented as a wealthy family, an investigation conducted by the school reveals that no such family exists and that Matilda's identity as an heiress is a fabrication. Miss Wilcox is faced with a dilemma: What is she to do with this seemingly fabricated heiress? The plot thickens as Miss Wilcox struggles to reconcile the fabricated identity of her student with the reality of the situation. The remaining chapters delve deeper into the investigation, leaving the reader to wonder about the motivations behind the deception and the true identity of Matilda Fitzgibbon. Unfortunately, these chapters are the only existing fragments of the novel, leaving the reader to ponder the intriguing mystery and the intended direction of the story.Book Details
