Gawayne and the Green Knight
'Gawayne and the Green Knight' Summary
This retelling of the classic medieval poem 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' follows the story of Sir Gawain, a brave knight of King Arthur's Round Table, as he faces a mysterious challenge. A Green Knight, an imposing figure clad in green armor, arrives at the court during the Christmas festivities and proposes a game. Any knight may strike him with his axe, but must accept the same blow in return a year later. Gawain accepts, beheads the Green Knight, but must embark on a perilous journey to fulfill his end of the bargain. Along the way, he encounters a series of trials and temptations, testing his courage, honor, and fidelity. This version adds the character of Lady Elfinhart, whose romance with Gawain intertwines with the central plot. The story explores themes of chivalry, morality, temptation, and the complexities of human nature.Book Details
