'Hero of Our Time' Summary
A Hero of Our Time is a collection of five stories. The first four stories are told by a traveling narrator who meets Pechorin and learns his story. The fifth story is told by Pechorin himself. Each of the stories focuses on a different aspect of Pechorin's character. In the first story, "Bela," Pechorin falls in love with a Circassian girl. However, his love for her is doomed from the start. In the second story, "Maxim Maksimych," Pechorin meets an old army friend and tells him about his experiences in the Caucasus. In the third story, "Taman," Pechorin becomes involved with a group of smugglers. In the fourth story, "Princess Mary," Pechorin falls in love with a wealthy young woman. However, their relationship is doomed from the start. In the fifth story, "Fatalist," Pechorin explores the nature of fate and free will.Book Details
