History of Vartan, and of the Battle of the Armenians: Containing an Account of the Religious Wars Between the Persians and Armenians
'History of Vartan, and of the Battle of the Armenians: Containing an Account of the Religious Wars Between the Persians and Armenians' Summary
The History of Vartan and the Battle of the Armenians begins with a description of the religious persecution of Christians by the Persian king Yazdegerd II. The Armenians, who had adopted Christianity as their state religion in the 4th century, refused to renounce their faith and were subjected to severe persecution. In response, the Armenian nobles led by Vartan Mamikonian rebelled against the Persians. The rebellion culminated in the Battle of Avarayr in 451 AD, in which the Armenians were defeated by the Persians. Despite their defeat, the Armenians were able to secure religious freedom from the Persians. The History of Vartan and the Battle of the Armenians is a valuable historical document that provides insights into the religious and political history of Armenia.Book Details
