'In Freedom's Cause' Summary
Edward Leslie, a young English boy, travels to Scotland with his father, a soldier fighting for King Edward I. When his father is killed in battle, Edward is taken in by a Scottish family, and begins to understand the Scottish cause. As he grows older, he becomes embroiled in the fight for Scottish independence, witnessing the bravery of William Wallace and Robert Bruce. He finds himself fighting alongside the Scots against the English, even as he faces prejudice from his own countrymen. He becomes close friends with a young Scottish nobleman, Donald, and together they endure the hardships of war, facing betrayal and difficult choices. The story culminates in the Battle of Bannockburn, a pivotal moment in the fight for Scottish independence. Edward’s journey is one of moral ambiguity and courage, as he struggles to reconcile his loyalty to his homeland with his newfound loyalty to Scotland and his friends.Book Details
