'In Londen en Parijs' Summary
Het verhaal begint in Londen, waar de arts Alexandre Manette, na jarenlange gevangenschap in de Bastille, wordt bevrijd. Zijn dochter Lucie, die hem nooit heeft gekend, ontmoet hem en probeert hem te helpen herstellen van de trauma's van zijn verleden. In Parijs woedt de Franse Revolutie, en we maken kennis met Charles Darnay, een edelman die probeert te breken met zijn aristocratische verleden. Darnay en Lucie worden verliefd, maar hun geluk wordt bedreigd door de politieke onrust. De revolutionaire Sydney Carton, een man die worstelt met zijn eigen demonen, wordt verliefd op Lucie en besluit haar te helpen, zelfs als het betekent dat hij zijn eigen leven moet opofferen. Terwijl de Franse Revolutie escalates, wordt Darnay ten onrechte veroordeeld tot de guillotine, en Carton neemt zijn plaats in. Door zijn dood redt Carton het leven van Darnay en zorgt hij ervoor dat Lucie en hun kinderen veilig zijn.
