Oblomov is a novel by Ivan Goncharov first published in 1859. The novel follows the life of Ilya Ilyich Oblomov, a young nobleman who lives an idle and apathetic existence in Saint Petersburg. Oblomov is content to spend his days sleeping, eating, and dreaming of his childhood home in the countryside. However, his life is disrupted by the arrival of his friend, Andrei Stolz, who tries to convince him to change his ways. Oblomov initially resists, but he eventually agrees to accompany Stolz on a trip to the countryside. However, even in the countryside, Oblomov finds it difficult to escape his old habits. He eventually returns to Saint Petersburg, where he resumes his former lifestyle. Oblomov is a classic work of Russian literature that explores themes such as apathy, indolence, procrastination, self-delusion, and nostalgia.
