Our American Cousin
by Tom Taylor
'Our American Cousin' Summary
Asa Trenchard, a charming but unrefined American, arrives in England hoping to inherit his aristocratic family's estate. His relatives, the Trenchards, are aghast at his lack of sophistication and attempt to mold him into a proper English gentleman. However, Asa's genuine character and his love for Florence, his cousin, win over the family. The play is filled with comedic situations and mistaken identities. The Trenchard family is engaged in a web of romantic entanglements and social aspirations, while Asa's American charm and blunt honesty provide a counterpoint to the stuffy English society. With numerous misunderstandings, romantic intrigues, and witty dialogue, 'Our American Cousin' serves as a humorous commentary on social conventions and the clash of cultures.Book Details
