It's divided into three parts: Gylfaginning, Skáldskaparmál, and Háttatal. Gylfaginning, the first part, recounts the creation of the world, the origins of the gods, and key figures in Norse mythology. Skáldskaparmál, a dialogue between the gods Ægir and Bragi, serves as a textbook on skaldic poetry, exploring the techniques and symbolism employed in this intricate poetic tradition. The final part, Háttatal, demonstrates the techniques of skaldic poetry, but is not included in this translation. This translation, by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur, offers a scholarly and accessible approach to understanding Norse mythology and its influence on European literature, including works like J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasies.
