Ralstons
'Ralstons' Summary
Katharine Lauderdale, now married to Jack Ralston, faces a challenging situation. Her secret marriage to Jack, a man of modest means, remains undiscovered by her wealthy uncle, who has refused to financially assist Jack in establishing a career. Katharine, unable to face her husband with the news of her uncle's rejection, creates a series of mishaps that lead everyone, including Katharine herself, to believe Jack has fallen victim to his struggles with alcohol. Despite the pretense of remaining single, Katharine finds herself drawn to a social event where she knows she will be seated next to Jack. His confusion at her cold demeanor stems from his belief that she received his letter explaining his situation. The truth is revealed at the dinner, but the question remains: can their love survive the misunderstandings and hurt feelings? As they struggle to find a path forward, they must confront their pride, reconcile their differences, and ultimately decide whether they will forge their own destiny or accept the generous offer they initially rejected from Katharine's uncle. The story also introduces a new element with the news that Katharine's uncle intends to purchase a newspaper, bringing a twist of ambition and power into the narrative.Book Details
