Jerusha schrijft elke maand brieven aan haar benefactor, vol verhalen over haar leven op de universiteit, haar vrienden en haar dromen. Door haar openhartige brieven groeit een band tussen Jerusha en haar mysterieuze weldoener, maar de vraag blijft of ze hem ooit zal ontmoeten en zijn identiteit zal onthullen.
