'Ramayan, Book 1' Summary
The Ramayana tells the story of Rama, a prince of Ayodhya, who is exiled from his kingdom by his father, King Dasharatha, at the behest of his stepmother, Kaikeyi. Rama is accompanied by his wife, Sita, and his brother, Lakshmana. The three of them wander the forest for fourteen years, during which time they encounter many challenges and adventures. Eventually, Rama and Lakshmana defeat Ravana, the demon king who has kidnapped Sita, and rescue her. The Ramayana is a story of love, loss, duty, and redemption. It is a complex and multifaceted work that has been interpreted and reinterpreted over the centuries.
