Riceyman Steps

Riceyman Steps

by Arnold Bennett

Riceyman Steps is a poignant and moving story about the human condition. Set in the gritty streets of London's Clerkenwell district shortly after the First World War, the novel follows the lives of the inhabitants of a dilapidated tenement building. At the heart of the story is Henry Earlforward, a miserly bookseller whose love for a woman is overshadowed by his obsession with money. As his life unravels, Henry must confront his own greed and selfishness, and ultimately, the true meaning of happiness.
