Rudens; or The Fisherman's Rope
'Rudens; or The Fisherman's Rope' Summary
The play opens with a prologue spoken by Arcturus, who explains that Daemones has come to Cyrene in search of his two children, who were kidnapped by pirates many years ago. Daemones meets a fisherman who tells him that he has found a rope with a ring attached to it, which Daemones recognizes as belonging to his daughter. The fisherman also tells Daemones that he has seen a young woman who resembles his daughter living in the house of a procurer named Labrax. Daemones goes to Labrax's house and confronts him, but Labrax denies having any knowledge of Daemones' daughter. Daemones then enlists the help of his slave, Sceparnio, who disguises himself as a buyer and goes to Labrax's house to try to buy Daemones' daughter. Sceparnio is successful in his mission, and Daemones is reunited with his daughter. The play ends with a happy ending for all the characters.Book Details
