In 1840s New York City, a series of mysterious drownings plagues the wealthy elite. Detective Ebenezer Gryce, at the start of his career, takes on the case, finding himself entangled in a web of deceit and hidden motives. The first clue points to a dubious money lender, drawing Gryce into a world of financial intrigue and the dark secrets of the city's elite.
