The Tale of Old Mr. Crow
'The Tale of Old Mr. Crow' Summary
The Tale of Old Mr. Crow by Arthur Scott Bailey is a classic children's story about a wise old crow who is tricked by a sly fox. The story teaches us important lessons about cleverness, resourcefulness, and forgiveness.
Old Mr. Crow is a well-respected member of the forest community. He is known for his intelligence and his ability to find food in even the most difficult of circumstances. One day, Old Mr. Crow is flying high above the forest when he sees a piece of cheese in the fox's mouth. Old Mr. Crow loves cheese, so he swoops down and grabs it.
But the fox is too clever for him. He tells Old Mr. Crow that he has a beautiful singing voice, and asks him to sing for him. Old Mr. Crow is flattered, and he opens his beak to sing. But as soon as he does, the cheese falls out. The fox quickly snatches it up and runs away, leaving Old Mr. Crow empty-handed.
Old Mr. Crow is very angry. He vows to get revenge on the fox. He comes up with a clever plan. He finds a large rock and carries it up to a high branch in a tree. He then sees the fox walking by below. Old Mr. Crow calls out to the fox and says, "I have a beautiful singing voice, but I can only sing it when I am holding something heavy in my mouth. Would you like to hear me sing?"
The fox is curious, so he says yes. Old Mr. Crow opens his beak to sing, and the rock falls out. It lands right on the fox's head, knocking him unconscious. Old Mr. Crow then swoops down and grabs the cheese from the fox's mouth. He flies away to a safe place to eat his cheese, happy that he has finally gotten his revenge.
But Old Mr. Crow is not satisfied. He feels guilty for tricking the fox and hurting him. He decides to go and see the Wise Old Owl to ask for advice. The Wise Old Owl tells Old Mr. Crow that revenge is never the answer. He says that it is better to forgive the fox and move on.
Old Mr. Crow takes the Wise Old Owl's advice to heart. He goes back to the fox and apologizes for hurting him. The fox is surprised and grateful for Old Mr. Crow's forgiveness. The two animals become friends, and they live happily ever after.
The Tale of Old Mr. Crow is a timeless story that teaches us important lessons about cleverness, resourcefulness, and forgiveness. It reminds us that it is always better to be kind and forgiving, even to those who have wronged us.
