Those Barren Leaves
'Those Barren Leaves' Summary
The novel follows the lives of Mrs. Aldwinkle and her entourage, who are gathered in an Italian palace to relive the glories of the Renaissance. For all their supposed sophistication, they are nothing but sad and superficial individuals, unable to escape the emptiness and meaninglessness of their own lives. The novel is a sharp critique of the decadence and hypocrisy of the upper classes, and a meditation on the nature of true culture and fulfillment.Book Details
